Beds & Headboards

Custom Beds and Headboards Dubai: Made to Measure for the Room You Actually Have

A bed is the largest single object in most bedrooms and the one you spend a third of your life on, yet it is usually the piece bought in the biggest hurry. Standard sizes rarely match Dubai rooms, standard headboards stop short of the ceiling, and the bedside tables that come with the set never quite fit between the bed and the wall.

At Fitout | Renovation Dubai we design and build custom beds and headboards Dubai homeowners commission when they want the bed to fit the room rather than the other way round: upholstered beds with full-height headboard walls, solid-timber platform beds, storage beds with lift-up bases and drawers, children’s beds with built-in desks, and headboard panels that run wall to wall with integrated lighting and floating bedside tables. Every piece is drawn for your bedroom, made in our own workshop in Ras Al Khor and installed by our own team.

Since 1984 our carpenters and upholsterers have fitted bedrooms in villas across Jumeirah, Arabian Ranches and Emirates Hills, apartments in Downtown and Dubai Marina, and hotel rooms across the Emirates. This page explains what we make, the materials and upholstery we recommend for the Gulf climate, how the process works, what a custom bed costs in 2026 and the questions clients ask before they order.

Why a Made-to-Measure Bed Beats the Showroom Set

Showroom beds are designed around shipping containers and global average rooms. They come in king, queen and single, in a handful of finishes, with headboards sized to look good on a showroom floor rather than against your wall. A bedroom in a Dubai villa may be six metres wide with a 3.2-metre ceiling; a bedroom in a Marina apartment may be three metres wide with a column in the corner. Neither is served by a catalogue.

A custom bed solves the practical problems first. We can build to any mattress size, including UAE and European sizes that do not match American frames, and to unusual proportions such as extra-long beds for taller sleepers or extra-wide beds for families who co-sleep. We size the headboard to the wall, not the mattress, so it can run full width with bedside tables, lighting and power sockets built into the same piece. We can hide the mattress base entirely, add drawers or a lift-up ottoman for storage, and raise or lower the bed height to suit the room and the sleeper.

It also solves the aesthetic problems. The headboard fabric can match your curtains or the sofa in the next room; the timber can match the wardrobes and doors we have already built for you; the finish can be the exact lacquer colour from your interior designer’s scheme. A showroom set only ever approximately matches a home. A made-to-measure bed belongs to it.

Finally, a custom bed is usually better made. Showroom frames are engineered to be flat-packed and assembled with cam locks; ours are built with mortise-and-tenon joints, solid timber rails, steel corner brackets and slatted or sprung bases designed to take daily use for twenty years. When the fabric eventually tires, the headboard can be re-upholstered rather than the whole bed replaced.

Our Beds and Headboards Collection — Built to Your Drawing

We do not sell from a range. Each category below is a starting point for a conversation about your bedroom, your mattress, your storage needs and how the bed should sit with the rest of the joinery. Every example on this page is an illustration of the style, not a stock photograph of a finished project.

Upholstered Beds and Full-Height Headboard Walls

Our most requested piece. A timber frame upholstered in bouclé, velvet, linen or leather, with a headboard that can rise to the ceiling and run wall to wall. Channel stitching, deep buttoning, fluted panels and plain wrapped panels are all made in our upholstery shop. Integrated reading lights, USB and power points, floating bedside shelves and even hidden wardrobe access can be built into the headboard wall so the bedroom reads as one composed piece.

Solid-Timber Platform Beds

Low, architectural beds in solid oak, walnut, ash or teak with a slatted or panelled timber headboard. Popular in apartments and minimalist villas where the bed should feel like furniture rather than upholstery. We build the frame with traditional joinery and finish it with hardwax oil or matt lacquer, and we can float the base on a recessed plinth so the bed appears to hover above the floor.

Storage Beds: Lift-Up Ottomans and Drawer Bases

Dubai apartments rarely have enough storage and bedrooms are the obvious place to add it. We build gas-strut lift-up ottoman beds with a fully lined storage cavity the size of the mattress, and drawer bases with two, four or six soft-close drawers on full-extension runners. Both can be upholstered or timber-clad to match the headboard. The mechanism and runners are German or Austrian, rated for daily use.

Children’s Beds, Bunk Beds and Study Beds

Kids’ rooms are where a custom bed earns its keep. We build bunk beds and loft beds with integrated stairs and drawers, single beds with pull-out trundles for sleepovers, and study beds with a desk, bookshelves and wardrobe built into the same unit so a small room works for a growing child. Everything is built to child-safety standards with rounded edges, water-based low-VOC finishes and guard rails sized correctly.

Guest Rooms, Daybeds and Hotel-Style Headboard Walls

For guest bedrooms, majlis rooms and short-let apartments we make hotel-style headboard walls with fluted timber or upholstered panels, bedside lighting and hard-wearing fabrics, plus daybeds and sofa beds that convert cleanly. Landlords fitting out several units get a repeatable specification that installs quickly and survives tenant turnover.

The Timbers, Fabrics and Boards We Build With

A bed lives in a room that is air-conditioned all year, so timber stability and fabric breathability matter more here than in cooler climates. We advise on every project; the table summarises the options we use most.

Built for the Gulf Climate: Heat, Dry Air and Air-Conditioning

A Dubai bedroom sits at 21 degrees and 40 per cent humidity for most of the year while the air outside the window may be 45 degrees and 80 per cent. Timber and fabric both respond to that gap. A frame made from under-dried timber will shrink and creak within a season; a fabric that traps moisture will feel clammy in summer and hold dust all year.

We kiln-dry every board to 8–10 per cent moisture content and acclimatise it in the workshop before it is cut, and we build headboards on stable engineered backers so the upholstery stays flat. Frames are jointed with mortise-and-tenon or dowel joints plus steel corner brackets so the bed does not loosen when it is moved for cleaning. Slatted bases are beech with flexible holders, spaced correctly for the mattress type; sprung bases are available for mattresses that require them.

For fabric we favour breathable, stain-treated weaves and we can add a removable, washable headboard cover on request, which families with young children usually appreciate. Foam is high-density and CertiPUR-grade so it does not sag or off-gas in a warm room, and we use water-based, low-VOC finishes on all timber so the bedroom is safe to sleep in the night the bed is installed.

Finishes, Upholstery and Hardware That Match the Rest of Your Home

Finish is where a custom bed earns its place. We offer clear and tinted lacquers in matt, satin and gloss; hardwax oils that can be spot-repaired; natural and smoked veneers book-matched across a headboard wall; and solid colours from the RAL and NCS ranges to match a designer’s scheme. Upholstery covers channel stitching, deep buttoning, fluting, piping and plain wrapped panels, in fabrics from our own library or supplied by your designer.

Hardware is where beds usually fail, so ours is chosen carefully: German gas struts on ottoman beds, full-extension soft-close drawer runners, concealed steel bed connectors so the frame can be dismantled and moved without damage, and integrated LED reading lights with dimmers and USB-C charging built into the headboard. We bring physical samples of every fabric, veneer and lacquer to your home so you can judge them under your own light.

How We Work: From Sketch to Installation

Commissioning a bed should be simple. Our process is the same one we use for full villa renovations, scaled to a single bedroom or a whole house of them.

  1. Free site visit and measure. We visit, measure the room, check the mattress you have or plan to buy, note sockets, switches and air-conditioning outlets on the bed wall, and listen to how you use the room.
  2. Design and itemised quote. Elevations and 3D views of the bed and headboard wall, with fabric and finish options and an itemised quote covering frame, upholstery, storage, lighting and installation.
  3. Samples and approval. Physical fabric, veneer and lacquer samples brought to your home. Nothing is cut until you approve the drawing and the samples.
  4. Workshop manufacture. Frames are jointed, sanded and finished in our workshop; headboards are upholstered in our own upholstery shop; storage mechanisms are fitted and tested before delivery.
  5. Installation. Our installers protect floors and walls, assemble the bed in the room, fix headboard walls to the structure, connect lighting and leave the bedroom clean and ready to sleep in.
  6. Aftercare. Warranty on frame, upholstery and mechanisms, and a free adjustment visit if anything needs tuning after a few weeks of use.

What Do Custom Beds and Headboards Cost in Dubai?

A made-to-measure bed in Dubai costs more than a flat-pack import and, piece for piece, is usually competitive with premium showroom brands — with the difference that it fits your room, matches your joinery and can be repaired rather than replaced. The figures below are indicative 2026 ranges from our own projects, including manufacture and installation and excluding VAT and the mattress.

The honest answer is not always custom. A simple guest bed in a rarely used room can be bought off the shelf. But for the master bedroom, for children’s rooms where safety and storage matter, and for any room where the bed wall is the focal point, a made-to-measure bed is the piece you will still be pleased with in fifteen years.

Caring for Beds and Headboards in the UAE

Well-made beds need little attention, but the Dubai environment has a few habits worth knowing. Vacuum upholstered headboards weekly with a soft brush to keep fine dust out of the weave, and treat spills immediately with a damp cloth rather than a wet one. Keep the bedroom humidity between 40 and 55 per cent if you can; very dry air over long periods can open joints in solid timber. Wipe oiled timber with a barely damp cloth and re-oil every two to three years; lacquered surfaces need only a soft cloth. Check and tighten frame bolts once a year, and if a gas strut or drawer runner ever feels tired, call us — parts are stocked and replaced in an hour. Removable headboard covers can be dry-cleaned or, for many fabrics, machine washed cold.

Who We Build Beds For

We also build to tenant briefs for long-lease apartments where the bed will move with the family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom beds and headboards in Dubai — what clients ask before they order

Yes. We build to the exact mattress you have or intend to buy — UAE, European, American and custom sizes, including extra-long and extra-wide beds. Bring the mattress dimensions to the site visit and we design the frame around them.

A standard upholstered or timber bed takes four to six weeks from approval of drawings and samples. Full-height headboard walls with integrated lighting and storage take five to eight weeks. Installation is usually one day.

Yes. Wall-mounted headboard panels are our most popular option because they can run wall to wall and carry lighting, sockets and floating bedside tables. We fix them to the structure with concealed brackets and the bed frame sits in front.

Breathable, stain-treated weaves such as bouclé, linen blends and performance velvets. We avoid heavy, non-breathable fabrics that feel warm in summer. Removable washable covers are available for family rooms.

Yes. We use German gas-strut mechanisms rated for daily use, with a fully lined storage cavity. Drawer-base beds with soft-close full-extension runners are also available.

They are built to recognised child-safety guidelines: guard rails at the correct height, rounded edges, no finger traps, secure ladders or stairs, and water-based low-VOC finishes.

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons clients commission a bed from us. We keep records of the veneers, lacquers and hardware used on your previous joinery and match them exactly.

We design large beds and headboard walls in sections that pass through standard doors and service lifts and are assembled in the room. This is confirmed at the site visit.

Yes. We replace foam and fabric on your existing frame, and can add channel stitching or buttoning if the frame allows. Prices start from around AED 1,500.

We do not sell mattresses, but we build the base to suit whichever you choose — slatted, sprung or solid platform — and we can coordinate delivery so the mattress arrives with the bed.

A workshop warranty on the frame, upholstery workmanship and installation, plus the manufacturers' warranty on gas struts, runners and lighting. Terms are stated on your quote.
