Fitted joinery gives a home its structure; loose furniture gives it its character. The console that greets you in the hallway, the sideboard that anchors the dining room, the coffee table your family gathers around — these are the pieces you touch every day, and the ones a showroom can only approximate.
At Fitout | Renovation Dubai, we design and build custom loose furniture Dubai homeowners commission when the catalogue piece is the wrong size, the wrong finish or simply not good enough: dining tables, consoles, sideboards, coffee and side tables, bed frames, benches, bookcases, dressing tables and standalone storage. Every piece is drawn for your room, made in our own workshop and finished to sit beside the rest of your interior as if it had always been there.
Since 1984 our carpenters have worked across villas in Jumeirah and Arabian Ranches, apartments in Downtown and Dubai Marina, and hotels, offices and restaurants across all seven emirates. This page explains what we make, how we make it, what it costs and how to specify furniture that lasts in the Gulf climate.
Most furniture sold in Dubai is designed for a global average room and shipped in flat packs or containers. It arrives in standard widths, standard heights and a small palette of finishes chosen by a buyer thousands of kilometres away. That is fine for a rental you will leave in a year; it is not fine for a home you have just renovated.
Custom loose furniture solves four problems at once:
There is a fifth reason that matters more than people expect: repairability. A custom piece built from solid timber and real veneer can be refinished, re-upholstered or modified for decades. A pressed-board import cannot.
We do not sell from a range. Each of the categories below is a starting point for a conversation about your room, your finishes and how the piece will be used. Photos here show typical builds; your piece will be drawn from scratch.
The dining table is the largest single piece of furniture in most Dubai homes and the one that gets the hardest use. We build solid-timber and veneered tops on timber, steel or stone bases, from six-seat family tables to four-metre entertaining tables that seat fourteen. Tops can be book-matched oak, walnut or ash, live-edge slabs, or fluted and lacquered MDF for a contemporary look. Every top is sealed for hot dishes, spills and the dry indoor air that shrinks poorly-dried timber. Matching benches and upholstered dining chairs are made to the same finish.
Entrance consoles set the tone of a home in the first two seconds. We make slim consoles for narrow apartment hallways, statement consoles in fluted timber or stone-topped frames for villa foyers, and long sideboards and credenzas for dining and living rooms with drawers, doors and lit display bays. Interiors are planned around what you actually store — table linen, serving pieces, a drinks tray, children’s homework — with soft-close hardware throughout.
Low tables take more abuse than any other piece: feet, drinks, laptops, toys. We build them with tops in solid timber, veneer, marble, quartz, glass or lacquer on frames that will not wobble after the first year. Nesting sets, drum tables, tables with hidden storage and mixed-material designs are all common requests. If you already own a sofa, we size the table to its seat height and depth so the proportions are right.
Freestanding bookcases and display units suit tenants who cannot fix joinery to the wall and owners who want a piece they can move. We build ladder units, modular cubes, glazed cabinets for collections, drinks cabinets and standalone dressers and chests. Shelves are engineered for load, so a full run of books will not sag, and glass doors use toughened panels with soft-close hinges.
Dressing tables with lit mirrors, blanket boxes, bedside tables sized to your mattress height, valet stands, writing desks, hall benches with shoe storage, prayer-room shelving and outdoor-rated garden pieces — anything a room needs that fitted joinery does not cover. Many clients commission a matched family of pieces so the bedroom or study reads as one set rather than three purchases.
Material choice decides how a piece looks on day one and how it behaves in year ten. We advise on every project; the table below summarises the options we use most in Dubai.
| Material | Best For | Character | Notes for UAE Homes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solid European oak | Dining tables, benches, legs and frames | Pale honey, straight grain, ages gracefully | Excellent stability when kiln-dried to 8–10% moisture; our default for tops that take daily use. |
| American walnut | Sideboards, consoles, statement pieces | Deep chocolate with flowing figure | Premium look; protect from direct sun to slow lightening. Veneer version gives the same face at lower cost. |
| Ash and beech | Chairs, frames, painted pieces | Light, tough, fine grain | Strong and economical; ideal under lacquer or stain. |
| Teak and iroko | Outdoor and pool-side furniture | Golden to dark honey, oily | Natural oils resist heat, humidity and insects; the only sensible choice for open terraces. |
| Natural veneer on MDF or plywood | Large flat panels, doors, carcasses | Real wood face, book-matched or quartered | More stable than solid boards across seasons; real timber look at 40–60% of the cost. |
| Lacquered MDF | Contemporary painted or coloured pieces | Any RAL colour, matt to high gloss | Perfect surfaces for fluted and curved forms; use moisture-resistant grade in bathrooms and kitchens. |
| Stone and quartz tops | Consoles, coffee tables, dining tables | Marble, travertine, sintered stone | We template, cut and bond the stone in-house; edges and undersides sealed against staining. |
| Metal frames | Table bases, console legs, shelving | Powder-coated steel, brushed brass, bronze | Fabricated by our metal trade and finished in-house for a colour match to hardware. |
Dubai furniture lives in two climates at once: 45-degree, humid air outside and dry, chilled air inside. Timber moves between them. A table that was fine in a European showroom can crack along its top within a season here because it was dried for a different environment.
Every piece we make is built for those conditions as standard: timber kiln-dried to Gulf indoor humidity, tops fixed with expansion-tolerant fixings so they can move without splitting, all six faces of every panel sealed (not just the visible ones), and finishes chosen for UV stability near large windows. For terraces, pool decks and garden rooms we use teak, iroko or thermally-modified timber with stainless hardware, and we tell you honestly which pieces should come indoors in August.
Delivery matters too. Our workshop is in Ras Al Khor, thirty minutes from most of Dubai, so furniture is not sitting in a hot container for weeks before it reaches you.
Finish is where a custom piece earns its place. We offer clear and tinted lacquers in matt, satin and gloss; hardwax oils that can be spot-repaired; open-pore stains that keep the grain visible; solid colour lacquer in any RAL shade; and hand-applied gilding or patinated metal for feature pieces. Upholstered elements — bench seats, dining chairs, headboards, ottomans — are made by our own upholsterers in your choice of fabric, leather or performance textile rated for pets and children.
Hardware is specified, not guessed: Blum and Hettich soft-close runners and hinges, brass or bronze pulls machined to match your door handles, felt-lined drawers for cutlery and jewellery, integrated LED lighting for display cabinets, and levelling feet for the slightly uneven floors common in older villas. Every finish is sampled on the actual timber before we start production, and you sign the sample.
Commissioning furniture should be simple. Our process is the same one we use for full villa renovations, scaled to a single piece or a whole house of them.
Bespoke furniture in Dubai costs more than a flat-pack import and, piece for piece, is usually competitive with premium showroom brands — with the difference that you choose every dimension and material. The right answer is not always custom. A guest-room bedside table that nobody will look at closely can be bought off the shelf. But for the pieces you see and use every day — the dining table, the console, the sideboard, the coffee table — a made-to-order piece costs little more than a good showroom brand and gives you exactly what your room needs.
Well-made furniture needs surprisingly little care, but the Dubai environment has three habits worth knowing. Keep solid-timber pieces out of direct afternoon sun, which bleaches walnut and can heat a top unevenly; close blinds or specify a UV-inhibiting lacquer near large windows. Do not place pieces directly under air-conditioning outlets, where cold dry air dries one face faster than the other. And wipe spills promptly with a damp, not wet, cloth — standing water is the enemy of any finish.
Oiled surfaces benefit from a light re-oil once or twice a year; lacquered surfaces need only a soft cloth. If a piece is ever scratched, dented or stained, our workshop can refinish it. That is one of the quiet advantages of buying furniture from the people who made it.
Homeowners furnishing a renovated villa or apartment; landlords and property managers fitting out rentals to a durable specification; interior designers who need a workshop to build their drawings accurately; developers furnishing show units; and hotels, restaurants, clinics and offices that need loose furniture matched to their fit-out. Whether the order is one console or two hundred hotel-room desks, the drawing, sampling and quality process is the same.
Our workshop is in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, which puts most of Dubai within thirty minutes for site visits and deliveries. We regularly build and deliver furniture in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills, Emirates Hills, The Springs and Meadows, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, JLT, Downtown, Business Bay, Creek Harbour, Mirdif, Al Furjan and Damac Hills.

If you are planning a wider project, these pages will help: our home carpentry overview covers fitted joinery, the wardrobes and walk-in closets page explains built-in storage, custom kitchens and pantries covers kitchen joinery, and the Dubai renovation cost guide puts furniture budgets in the context of a full renovation. For industry standards on timber moisture content and furniture testing, the UAE’s ESMA product conformity scheme and international standards such as BS EN 12521 (strength and durability of domestic tables) and BS EN 16139 (seating) are the references our workshop follows. Finished projects are on our projects page, and you can reach the team through the contact page.
Most single pieces take three to five weeks from approved drawing to delivery; a full set for a dining room or bedroom takes five to eight weeks. Stone tops, special veneers and upholstery fabrics on order can add a week or two. The date is fixed in your quote.
Piece for piece it is usually similar to premium showroom brands and considerably more than flat-pack imports. The difference is that you choose the exact size, timber, finish and hardware, and the piece is built to be repaired and refinished for decades rather than replaced.
Yes. We take a door or drawer front from your existing joinery (or a photograph and a sample if that is not possible) and match the veneer, stain and sheen on the actual timber before production. If we built your joinery, the finish is already on file.
Both, and we recommend the right one for each part. Solid timber is ideal for table tops, legs and frames; natural veneer on a stable board is better for large flat panels such as sideboard doors, because it will not warp or split in air-conditioned rooms.
Not if it is built for it. We kiln-dry timber to Gulf indoor humidity, seal every face, use expansion-tolerant fixings on tops and specify UV-stable finishes. Cracking usually happens with imported pieces dried for a different climate or placed under an air-conditioning outlet.
Always. Timber, stain, lacquer, stone and fabric samples are produced for every order and you sign them off before anything is cut. Clients are also welcome to visit the workshop during production.
Yes. We book the freight lift, provide the building management with our trade licence and insurance where required, protect the corridors and lift, and take all packaging away.
Yes, in teak, iroko or thermally-modified timber with marine-grade stainless hardware and outdoor-rated finishes. We will also tell you honestly which pieces should be covered or brought indoors during peak summer.
Yes. Our own upholsterers make bench seats, dining chairs, ottomans and headboards in fabric, leather or performance textiles, so the whole piece is built and guaranteed by one team.
There is none. We make single consoles as happily as full hotel fit-outs. Smaller pieces are often scheduled alongside larger workshop jobs, which keeps their cost reasonable.
