Entertaining is at the centre of home life in the UAE. Friday lunches, Ramadan gatherings, majlis evenings, birthdays and the endless stream of guests who drop in for coffee — every one of them ends up at the same corner of the house. A bar unit gives that corner a purpose: somewhere to store, chill, display and serve, with the glassware, the coffee machine and the fridge all where they should be.
At Fitout | Renovation Dubai we design and build custom home bars Dubai homeowners commission when they want an entertaining space that looks like part of the architecture rather than a piece of furniture pushed against a wall: bar counters with stone tops, back-bar shelving with integrated lighting, coffee and juice stations, majlis serving units, wine and beverage storage, pool-house and terrace bars, and dry bars for apartments where space is tight. Every piece is drawn for your room, made in our own workshop in Ras Al Khor and installed by our own team.
Since 1984 our carpenters have built bars for villas in Emirates Hills and Jumeirah Golf Estates, penthouses in Downtown and Palm Jumeirah, and lounges, hotels and restaurants across the Emirates. This page explains what we make, the materials that survive spills and humidity, how the process works, what a custom bar costs in 2026 and the questions clients ask before they order.
A freestanding bar cabinet is a compromise. It holds a few bottles and glasses, it rarely has power for a fridge or a coffee machine, and it never quite matches the joinery around it. A built-in bar is designed from the wall outwards: the counter sits at the right height for the stools you choose, the back-bar carries lighting and display, the under-counter has a beverage fridge, an ice maker or a sink with a proper drain, and the whole thing is finished to match your kitchen, TV unit or majlis panelling.
It also solves the practical problems that make entertaining tiring. Glassware storage sized to your glasses, so nothing rattles. Drawers for tools, napkins and bottle openers. A waste and recycling pull-out. A dedicated circuit for the fridge and the coffee machine so the lights do not dim when both run. Stone or sintered tops that shrug off citrus and water rings. Lighting on a dimmer so the same bar works for a family breakfast and a late gathering.
Because UAE homes host so many non-drinking guests, most of the bars we build are designed first around coffee, tea, juice and mocktails — a barista-grade machine, a water tap, a fridge for mixers and dates, and display for the good cups — and only secondarily around anything else. We design around how your household actually entertains.
Finally, a built-in bar is an asset. It adds a feature that buyers and tenants notice, it is built from materials that last, and it can be refinished or re-topped years later rather than replaced.
We do not sell from a range. Each category below is a starting point for a conversation about your room, how you entertain and the finishes already in your home. Every example on this page is an illustration of the style, not a stock photograph of a finished project.
The complete piece: a counter with a stone, timber or sintered top and a fluted, panelled or upholstered front; a back-bar wall of shelving, mirror, stone or timber panelling with integrated LED lighting; and under-counter storage with fridge, ice maker, sink and drawers. Sized from a 1.5-metre alcove to a full wall with seating for eight.
Dedicated stations for the espresso machine, grinder, kettle, water tap and cups, with a fridge for milk and mixers and a drawer for pods and beans. Built into kitchens, pantries, majlis rooms and home offices, with a wipe-clean top and a splashback that matches the kitchen.
Low or counter-height units for the majlis with space for the dallah and cups, dates and sweets, a hidden fridge and a warming drawer, finished in timber and brass to suit traditional and contemporary majlis interiors. Often built with the TV wall or wall panelling as a single piece.
Compact bar units for apartments: a counter-height cabinet with glass-fronted display, backlit shelving, a small beverage fridge and glass storage, built into an alcove or the end of a kitchen run. No plumbing needed, so they suit rentals and tower apartments.
Bars for gardens, pool houses and roof terraces in teak, iroko or marine-grade panels with sintered-stone tops, outdoor-rated fridges and ice makers, and lighting and shading designed for the Dubai climate. Built to shrug off sun, humidity and sand.
A bar takes more abuse than almost any other piece of joinery — water, ice, citrus, coffee, hot cups and constant wiping. Material choice decides how it looks after five years. The table summarises the options we use most.
| Material | Best For | Character | Notes for UAE Homes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sintered stone and quartz | Counter tops, splashbacks | Uniform, hard, stain-proof | Best top for daily use; heat and citrus resistant |
| Marble and travertine | Statement tops, back-bar panels | Natural veining | Sealed; use mats — acids etch polished marble |
| Solid oak and walnut | Bar fronts, fluting, shelves | Warm, tactile | Kiln-dried; sealed on all faces near water |
| Fluted and slatted timber panels | Counter fronts, back-bar walls | Texture and shadow | Veneered MR-MDF cores keep flutes straight |
| Marine plywood and MR-MDF | Carcasses, sink and fridge units | Stable engineered panels | Moisture-resistant grades only; sealed edges |
| Lacquered finishes | Doors, drawers, colour schemes | Any RAL or NCS colour | Polyurethane lacquer wipes clean |
| Brass, bronze and blackened steel | Foot rails, handles, shelf brackets | Warm metal detail | Lacquered or PVD-coated against humidity |
| Back-painted, fluted and antique glass | Back-bar panels, doors | Light and reflection | Toughened; easy to clean |
| Teak and iroko | Outdoor and pool-house bars | Golden, oily, durable | Naturally resists humidity and sun |
A bar is the wettest piece of joinery outside the kitchen and bathroom. Ice buckets sweat, glasses drip, sinks splash and fridges produce condensation, all inside an air-conditioned room where timber is already under stress from dry air. Get the materials wrong and doors swell, veneers lift and carcasses stain within a year.
We build bar carcasses from marine plywood or moisture-resistant MDF with every edge sealed, fit sink and fridge units with waterproof bases and drip trays, and vent fridges and ice makers properly so they do not overheat inside a closed cabinet. Timber fronts are kiln-dried to 8–10 per cent moisture, veneered on stable cores and finished on all faces. Stone and sintered tops sit on waterproof sub-tops with sealed joints, and splashbacks run up behind every wet area.
For outdoor and pool-house bars we use teak, iroko or marine panels, stainless or PVD hardware, outdoor-rated appliances and UV-resistant finishes, and we design shading and drainage into the piece. All finishes are water-based, low-VOC and cured in the workshop so the bar is ready for guests the day it is installed.
Finish is where a custom bar earns its place. We offer fluted, slatted and flat veneered fronts in oak, walnut, smoked and stained timbers; lacquered fronts in any RAL or NCS colour; upholstered and leather-wrapped counter fronts; stone, sintered and timber tops with mitred or bullnose edges; and back-bar walls in mirror, fluted glass, stone, timber or fabric. Brass and bronze details — foot rails, handles, shelf brackets and inlays — can be matched to your kitchen and door hardware.
Lighting is designed in: LED strips under shelves and counters, backlit onyx or glass panels, downlights over the counter and a dimmer so the mood can change. Hardware is chosen for wet daily use: soft-close full-extension runners, push-to-open doors, waste pull-outs, glass racks, bottle drawers and appliance housings for fridges, ice makers, wine coolers and coffee machines. We bring physical samples of every timber, finish, stone and metal to your home so you can judge them under your own light.
Commissioning a bar should be simple. Our process is the same one we use for full villa renovations, scaled to a single unit or a whole entertaining space.
A built-in bar in Dubai costs more than a freestanding cabinet and, size for size, is usually competitive with premium kitchen joinery — with the difference that it is designed around your appliances and finished to match your home. The honest answer is not always built-in. A small apartment that entertains rarely may be better served by a good freestanding piece. But for the majlis, the family living room and any home where hospitality is constant, a built-in bar is the piece guests remember and the one you will use every day.
Well-made bars need little care, but the Dubai environment has a few habits worth knowing. Wipe stone and sintered tops daily with a damp cloth; on marble, wipe citrus and coffee immediately and re-seal every year or two. Keep an eye on the fridge vent and clear dust from it every few months so the compressor runs cool. Dry the sink surround after use and check the silicone joints once a year. Wipe timber fronts with a barely damp cloth and never leave ice buckets directly on oiled timber. Clean glass and mirror back-bars with a non-ammonia cleaner. Adjust soft-close hinges if a door drifts, and call us if a light strip or a runner ever feels tired — parts are stocked and replaced in an hour.
Families who host constantly and want a hospitality wall that makes coffee, tea, juice and dessert service effortless; homeowners finishing a majlis, living room or terrace and wanting the bar built with the TV wall or panelling; penthouse and apartment owners who want a compact dry bar that looks like part of the architecture; landlords and short-let operators adding a feature that lifts rental value; hotels, lounges and restaurants ordering bars and back-bars; and interior designers who need a workshop that will build their drawings precisely and coordinate services for them.
Our workshop is in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, which puts most of Dubai within thirty minutes for site visits and installations. We regularly build and install bars and serving units in Emirates Hills, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills Estate, DAMAC Hills, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha, Jumeirah Park, Al Furjan, Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, JLT, JBR, Downtown, Business Bay, DIFC, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Nad Al Sheba and Town Square, and on request in Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah. Apartment installations are planned around building rules, service-lift bookings and permitted hours.
If you are planning a wider project, these pages will help: TV units and media walls are often built with the bar as one hospitality wall; custom kitchens and pantries for coffee stations built into the kitchen; wall panelling and wooden ceilings for back-bar walls and majlis interiors; outdoor carpentry for pool-house bars; and the home carpentry hub lists every joinery service we offer.
Yes. Dry bars with a fridge, ice bucket well and glass storage need only a power socket, which makes them ideal for apartments and rentals. Where you want a sink, we route water and drainage with our licensed plumber.
Yes, and most of the bars we build are designed that way — barista machine, grinder, water tap, mixer fridge, dallah and cup display and a warming drawer for the majlis.
Sintered stone or quartz for daily use: they resist citrus, coffee, heat and water rings. Marble looks beautiful but etches with acids, so we recommend it for back-bar panels or for clients happy to seal and care for it.
We design the housings around the appliances you choose and can source them through our suppliers if you prefer. Ventilation and power are designed in so the appliances run cool inside the cabinet.
Yes. We keep records of the veneers, lacquers and hardware used on your previous joinery and match them exactly, or take a sample from the existing piece.
Five to eight weeks from approval of drawings and samples for most bars, depending on stone and appliances. Installation is one to three days including services.
Yes. We use teak, iroko or marine-grade panels, sintered tops, outdoor-rated appliances and UV-resistant finishes, and design shading and drainage into the piece.
Not if they are built for it. We use moisture-resistant cores, seal every edge and face, and fit waterproof sub-tops and drip trays so water never reaches the timber.
Yes. LED shelf and under-counter lighting, backlit stone or glass and downlights, all on a dimmer or smart-home control, are designed in from the start.
Yes. Upholstered, timber or brass-framed stools built to the counter height and finished to match the bar.
Often, yes. New fronts, a new top and new lighting on sound existing carcasses cost a fraction of a new bar. We assess this at the site visit.
