Fire-rated doors are not a place to cut corners. In Dubai, fire doors on escape routes, shared corridors, stairwells and between certain rooms must be certified and installed to satisfy the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code and Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) requirements. Common ratings range from 20 to 120 minutes, tested to recognised standards such as BS 476-22 or EN 1634-1, and the certification covers the complete assembly — the door leaf, frame, intumescent and smoke seals, and the ironmongery together, not just the door on its own.
